Four Feature Requests

Posted in

Thanks for making such a helpful application. Here are some feature requests.

1. When the staff is disabled, hide it so that the guitar fretboard can be bigger (vertically). Also, reduce the space given to the staff in "Name That Note" mode so that the fretboard can be bigger (vertically).

2. When the fretboard is longer than five frets, make the higher frets slightly diminish in size to reflect a real fretboard. In "Play That Note" mode this might not be possible unless you make the sound hole a lot smaller, but in the other modes it would help make the fretboard look more realistic.

Pitch recognition via microphone.

Great app. What would make it totally amazing would be combing it with some pitch detecting/ tuner-type code that uses the mic. i.e. The note flashes on the screen, I play it on my guitar/violin/piano etc the app detects the note via the mic.

I've found that I can get quite fast touching the image of the violin fret board but that the speed is not there holding an actual violin. The learned response is different.

Mandola instrument request

First let me say that I love the program. It works very well. I do have a request though. I would like to see an option for a Mandola as an instrument. I have been using the viola so far, but dot markers and the correct voice would be nice. It would be a nice touch if you could also have notes above E5 be displayed in treble clef if possible. Thanks!

Ipod in-app

I don't really know the difficulty behind implementing it but I do think it would be a nice feature to be able to listen his ipod songs in the background when using ireadmusic (e.c in the play that note mode without the song on). It always bothered me to have to stop listening to my songs when wanting to practice reading notes and especially in the subway. Obviously when the song is turned on in the app the ipod would stop else it'd be kinda hard to practice naming the pitch. I don't know if this feature is appropriate or not considering the app but still I would really appreciate if it was

Play note letter mode

I just have a quick suggestion here. How about a mode that instead of displaying a staff, it displays a letter (ABCDEFG), one at a time, and you play it on the board? That would be relatively simple, and you could charge $0.99 as an in app purchase. Regards, Bryan

Guitarfrets starts in à higher position

I love your app very much, but for learning the higher positions of the guitar it would be great to select to start in higher positions, eg select the range from 5-12. De space will be bigger so it is easier to train. As second suggestion: improving sight reading is learning to recognize a group of note in a short moment, e.g. chords. So if I can select a group of notes and select the duration of it on the screen, it will highly improve mijn skill in staff reading. Thanks à lot for this nice programm. Jerome K Jerome

requested option: Fretboard on top of screen

Posted in
Currently, when practicing with this app, I fret with my thumbs. Of course, when playing my actual instruments (banjo and mandolin) I fret with my index, middle, ring, and little fingers, Fretting with my thumbs helps learn where notes are on the fretboard, but it doesn't help learn which finger to fret with. I would love to see an option to simply swap the positions of the fretboard and the staff so I can wrap my fingers around the phone and fret with the proper fingers, better emulating a real instrument.

Accidentals?

Posted in
Now that I'm getting halfway good at recognizing notes, is there a way to have the program display sometime sharp and flat notes instead of all natural notes? If not let me add this as a very high priority feature request, also, note stems could be allowed to go in up or down positions as another advanced option. I know there is a way to switch the key of the notes, but in any key you need to be able to recognize sharp and flat notes + double sharp and double flat notes, also the natural sign is also important as an accidental. Thanks, Joel

Beginner cheat tape on violin option

When learning on a fretless instrument sometimes tape is put on the fret board so the student knows where to put the fingers. As I touch the board I'm not always as acurate as I want to be.

write your own music?

This thing is great, I learned how do read 2 octaves of treble cleff in one day. It would be neat to input your own music, be able to hear the iThing play it and then play it yourself. I would also like a large bag of money to be left on my front step but it never hurts to ask.
